The Spapilem Gold showing is located at an elevation of approximately 1700 metres in the headwaters of Spapilem and John Creeks, approximately 34 kilometres northeast of Barriere.

Regionally, the area is located near the contact between the mid-Cretaceous Baldy Batholith, the upper Proterozoic to lower Cambrian Graffunder Lakes unit and a late Devonian orthogneiss unit, all of the Eagle Bay Assemblage. The Eagle Bay Assemblage comprises a series of low-grade metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks, including micaceous quartzite, grit, phyllite and quartz mica schist, accompanied by minor amounts of chlorite schist, limestone, calcareous phyllite, calc-silicate schist and amphibolite.

Locally, a granite hosts a 0.25-metre wide quartz vein with massive magnetite mineralization. A second quartz-magnetite vein, referred to as the Spapilem Gold100 vein, is reported approximately 100 metres east of the first vein.

In 2007, a rock sample (SPQZ3) from the first quartz vein returned 1.29 grams per tonne gold, whereas a sample (SPQZE) of massive magnetite from the same vein returned 6.01 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 29378).

In 2010, a sample (SPAP9QZ7) from the Spapilem Gold100 vein yielded 3.40 grams per tonne gold, whereas a sample (SPR7H1) of the host granite with quartz and magnetite yielded 2.60 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 32076).

In 2018, two rock samples (SP18R2 and SP18R3) from the west and east veins yielded 0.639 and 0.205 gram per tonne gold, respectively (Assessment Report 37981).

Work History

In 1970, Royal Canadian Ventures Ltd. completed a program of geological mapping, soil sampling and ground magnetic and electromagnetic surveys on the area as the SC claims.

In 2007, a grass roots exploration program of prospecting and geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling was conducted on the area by David J. Piggin on the area as the Spa 2 claim. Previously, Teck Corporation had staked the headwaters of Spapilem Creek to cover a British Columbia Geological Survey Open File release: a moss mat anomaly of 1140 parts per billion gold (Open File 2000-23).

In 2008 and 2009, further programs of prospecting, geological mapping and geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling were performed on the area as the Honeymoon property.

During 2010 through 2013, Astral Mining Corp. completed programs of prospecting, geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling, minor trenching and 2425.4 line-kilometres of airborne magnetic and electromagnetic surveys on the area as the Honeymoon property.

In 2014, SolidusGold Inc. completed a program of prospecting and geochemical (rock, soil and heavy mineral) sampling on the Honeymoon property. In 2016, an airborne magnetic survey was completed.

In 2018, D.J. Piggin prospected and rock sampled the area as the Spapilemgold claim. Further programs of geological mapping and photo interpretation were completed in 2019 and 2020.
